Book launch: ‘The Radiation Diaries’ by Janet Todd

Description

It’s the depth of winter. I face over a month of whole pelvic radiotherapy. Being a wordy person, I need a verbal sedative, I resolve on a diary. The subject will be Life in Hospital-land. Books have always been my refuge over deep water. Not so good when water’s choppy. Then I write instead of read.”

Janet Todd is one of Britain’s most distinguished literary scholars, known for her pioneering work on Jane Austen, Aphra Behn, Mary Wollstonecraft and other women writers. During her 7-year tenure as President of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge she was diagnosed with three forms of cancer, undergoing gruelling treatment. She kept her experience quiet – until now.

Join Janet Tood at Heffers for the official launch of her book, The Radiation Diaries: Cancer, Memory and Fragments of a Life in Words, telling of her time spent undergoing treatment and whilst doing so, reflecting on her unquiet past, on literature, feminism – and her battered female body.

The launch is free to attend but booking is essential to be guaranteed entry; please reserve a place through this page, by calling 01223 463200 or in person at Heffers bookshop. Please note this is an informal standing event, not a seated talk; a limited number of chairs will be available.
